Recommendations

I often get asked for an advice about specific products and services. Here you will find everything: from my favourite grooming brush to daycare providers I trust. This list is not an advertising: I don’t get any benefits from businesses or producers I share here. I can’t take responsibility for any bad experiences with any of the products or services recommended. These are simply things and service providers that I like and would use myself.

  • I can’t recommend groomers because I’ve never used their services since my dog doesn’t need it.

Brush for dogs with an undercoat I recommend: Groomy and Furminator.

  • Day- and Holidaycare is a very personal choice. Please make sure you trust the person you leave your dog with. When I know your dog, I can give you a more personal advice on what daycare types or exact providers would work for your dog better. Main rules for daycares that I recommend:

    • no more than 6 dogs

    • the less dogs, the better

    • if there is an outdoor playground, dogs always have a choice to go inside

    • everyday walks are crucial (no dog hotels where dogs never go outside of their territory)

    • no “no intact males” rule. Yes, even if you have a castrated male dog

    • dogs are never left alone in the car on a regular basis for 10+ minutes

    • dogs sleep inside the house during overnight stays (or they have a choice)

    • if cages or separated individual zones are being used, keeping dogs there should be reasonable and not a “normal thing for any dog”

    • if dogs are transported in a car, secure boxes or other safety tools should be used

There are decent exceptions that won’t make it in this list though.

Day- and Holidaycare providers I recommend to my clients:

  • I recommend Emmi Pet ultrasonic toothbrush and other accessories from them for regular dental care. This toothbrush removes tartar and plaque. It makes no sound or movement — don’t be concerned about it. If your dog has a lot of plaque, give it some time: the first several uses you won’t see any effect because the brush slowly softens plaque and tartar to let them be removed easier later.

  • Backpack: Tarigs

City bag for small dogs: 2.8 Due Ponto Otto

Tip: you have to pay for a dog in Swiss public transport. For Zürich the rule is though that any dog below 30 cm tall can travel for free in a bag (here is this info on ZVV website). When you have no dog bag, you need to pay for a half-fare ticket for your pup — technically, even if they fit on your lap and don’t disturb anyone.

  • I never use hair dryer to dry my dog — I always used towels or bathrobes. My top recommendation is Sicarro Bathrobe: this is an investment that is definitely worth it. It absorbs moisture much quicker than other bathrobes on the market and reduces wet dog smell a lot.

  • Disclaimer: I am not a veterinarian, nutritionist or canine gastroenterologist.

I normally recommend choosing dog foods that have 60% or more meat content. All the other ingredients should be “understandable” for you. The less processed products are, the better. Raw feeding is better than wet dog food. Wet dog food is better than dry dog food. You should choose complete dog menus or seek help of a professional in dog nutrition when choosing a raw diet.

    Food brands that I recommend:

    1. Anibio Fleischwurst

    2. Purbello Fleischwurst

    3. Fleischeslust

    4. Dogz Finefood

    5. Belcando Mastercraft dry dog food
